In the past weeks there was a party that was being advertized on a social network sight. The party was named and themed “Vatos Lokos,” of which all students at Washington State University (WSU), should dress up in Mexican and gangster attire. It was promoting that all parties on that day should be of this theme. In the post they had pictures of what is considered to be the Mexican and gangster attire. The pictures were very stereotypical and racist. I wonder if the person was trying to be racist or if it was an innocent themed party. As a Latino student this was offensive. I wonder what the person’s motive was to think of this theme, as well as how he would have thought of it. It would be as if I would think of having a white trash or preppy party. The preppy party would consist of having people were all American Eagle or Arepostale clothing. I wonder what type of response if all of the minority students of WSU threw one of these themed parties.
